Philippine financial markets closed mixed on Thursday as stocks snapped a two-day losing streak while the peso remained at its weakest closing level on record.
Philippine financial markets delivered mixed results on Thursday, July 23, 2026, as the stock market recovered from recent losses while the peso stayed pinned at its historic low against the US dollar.
The Philippine Stock Exchange index (PSEi) climbed 15.27 points, or 0.24%, to close at 6,283.12, recovering from the losses posted in the previous two trading sessions. The index remained in the 6,200 level, suggesting the market regained some ground after its recent pullback.
Peso holds record low
The Philippine peso closed unchanged at ₱61.75 against the US dollar, remaining at the historic low closing rate first recorded on May 18 this year.
The local currency reached an intraday high of ₱61.75, unchanged from the previous session’s rate. The unchanged finish indicated that pressure on the peso persisted, with the currency trading at its weakest closing level on record.
Thursday’s session reflected diverging movements in Philippine financial markets. While local equities managed to end a two-day losing streak, the peso remained under sustained pressure, highlighting continued caution among investors as they monitored domestic and global economic developments.
