Shanon Sison urges fact-checking after beauty queen mix-up in NBI case

The former beauty queen warns against spreading unverified accusations after another pageant contestant was allegedly misidentified online.

Former beauty queen-turned-VMX star Shanon Sison has spoken out following a recent National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) operation that rescued a fellow former beauty queen and five Russian women from an alleged human trafficking scheme at a hotel in Makati City.

The NBI said the women were allegedly being offered for commercial sexual exploitation under the guise of PR modeling and companionship services.

“It’s very sad,” Shanon shared during the media launch of her newest VMX project, “VMX Tapes.”

However, amid reports about the operation, a former beauty queen was allegedly misidentified online as one of the rescued women, making her a victim of what Shanon described as “mistaken identity.”

Shanon stressed the importance of verifying information before posting accusations on social media.

“Kasi nga when we post something, especially when we’re trying to post a picture of someone, we have to double-check the facts. Kailangan alam natin kung totoo ba ang sinasabi natin kasi it could be libelous,” she said.

She also expressed sympathy for the beauty queen who was allegedly dragged into the controversy despite reportedly having no connection to the case.

“Kawawa naman ’yong tao, ’di ba? Of course, lahat tayo may pangalan, lahat tayo may pagkatao,” Shanon shared.

Sison also hopes those responsible for the mistaken identification will acknowledge the error and correct the information.

“With this, I hope this could be corrected. I mean, I acknowledge that mistakes were made. It’s very true na may gano’n namang issue, but that photo, that person, are we 100 percent sure na siya ‘yon? So I think that everyone has the responsibility to double-check facts,” she explained.

As she becomes part of the growing roster of VMX stars, Shanon also opened up about dealing with indecent proposals.

“Minsan rin kasi nagti-trip na lang din sila. Ako kasi, I don’t entertain indecent proposals. Kung gusto mo maging boyfriend ko, manligaw ka ng tama. Hindi ko kailangan ng indecent proposal n’yo. Sasapakin kayo ng mother ko,” she jokingly shared.

Shanon, is a Filipino beauty queen, model, and actress who has competed in several local and international pageants.

She represented the Philippines at Miss Elite 2022 in Egypt, where she finished first runner-up. She also placed first runner-up at Miss Grand Philippines 2023, representing Caloocan City, and competed as Miss Grand Bulacan in Miss Grand Philippines 2025.

She previously won the Miss Caloocan 2019 title and was also a runner-up at Miss Philippines Earth 2019.
