The actor opens up about working alongside a Korean film crew for high-octane thriller The Guardian.
Wilbert Ross is stepping into new acting territory as he portrays an action villain for the first time in the Korean-Filipino film “The Guardian.”
Directed by Korean filmmaker Jeong Jang-hwan (“Steel Rain,” “Save the Green Planet!”), the film was shot entirely in the Philippines. It brings together Filipino and Korean actors in a story driven by action, family, and survival.
Playing an antagonist in an action film presented a unique challenge for Wilbert, who had to adapt to the genre’s physical demands while navigating a collaboration with a Korean production crew.
Despite the language barrier, the actor shared that the Korean team kept production running smoothly and ensured everyone felt comfortable.
“Sobrang gaan nila katrabaho kahit na may language barrier kami. Sobrang gaan sa set, at patient sila mag-explain ng instructions kung ano ang dapat gawin,” Wilbert recalled.
He also teased the film’s action sequences, describing the experience as surreal and expressing complete confidence in the final project.
Costar #EricEjercito shared Wilbert’s enthusiasm, highlighting the film’s potential to resonate with global audiences.
“When you say action, it’s so surreal for both of us. I can speak for everyone when I say this is a high-quality film we can truly be proud of. I’m proud to say it will be seen worldwide,” Eric said.
“The Guardian” marks a major milestone for Wilbert. Despite his packed 2026 schedule, he welcomes the chance to stretch his range and show audiences a different side of his craft.
“Ito siguro ang tamang oras para ipalabas ang movie at maipakita ang ibang side ni Wilbert sa lahat,” he added.
The film stars K-pop idol and INFINITE lead vocalist Nam Woo-hyun alongside Jewel in the Palace star Park Eun-hye.
Nam plays Do-jun, a former college student and skilled taekwondo practitioner who set aside his national athletic dreams to stay with his mother in the Philippines. The story follows Do-jun’s desperate fight to rescue his mother after she is targeted by a ruthless criminal syndicate. With time running out, his martial arts skills become his only key to survival.
Rounding out the Filipino ensemble are Yassi Pressman, Jeric Raval, Joko Diaz, and Ashtine Olviga. They star alongside Korean actors Nam Woo-hyun, Park Eun-hye, and Han Jae-seok.
“The Guardian” opens in Philippine cinemas on September 2.
