MinebeaMitsumi expands semiconductor and electronics output in Cebu and beyond.
Japan’s manufacturing footprint in the Philippines is getting bigger, with MinebeaMitsumi committing a ₱25 billion expansion that is expected to bring in around 3,000 jobs and deepen the country’s role in global electronics production.
The Department of Trade and Industry said the expansion will scale up semiconductor back-end operations in Cebu, along with production for battery protection modules used in hyperscale data centers and optical image stabilization components found in high-end smartphones. These are parts tied to fast-growing industries powering artificial intelligence, cloud computing, and next-gen devices.
MinebeaMitsumi, already one of the country’s largest Japanese investors with about 22,000 workers across Cebu, Batangas, and Bataan, is also expanding capacity in analog semiconductors starting 2027.
The company’s total investments in the Philippines have reached around ₱53 billion, with output feeding vehicles, consumer electronics, and digital infrastructure worldwide.
The expansion means deeper entry into high-value manufacturing for local workers and suppliers, with more technical jobs tied to global supply chains rather than low-end assembly.
