A typical household using 200 kWh will save about ₱8 on its electricity bill this month.
Meralco is cutting electricity rates for the second straight month, giving households another small break on their power bills this September.
The utility said the rate for a typical household fell by ₱0.0409 per kWh to ₱14.7424 from ₱14.7833 in August. A household using 200 kWh will save about ₱8 on its bill this month.
The reduction comes despite a ₱0.4232-per-kWh increase in generation charges, driven largely by the weaker peso and higher fuel costs amid the recent escalation of the Middle East conflict.
Lower ancillary service charges and taxes more than offset that increase. Ancillary charges fell by ₱0.3344 per kWh, while taxes and other charges dropped by ₱0.1657 per kWh.
Meralco customers are also receiving two ongoing refunds worth a combined ₱1.0139 per kWh for residential users, providing another source of relief on electricity bills.
The latest cut follows a rate reduction in August, although the savings remain modest against the cost pressures affecting power generation. Meralco’s distribution charge for a typical residential customer has stayed unchanged since August 2022.
