From trendsetter to discount bin: The branding crisis facing Cotton On Philippines in 2026.

Yesterday marked the last day of Cotton On’s Robinsons Magnolia branch—and it only made the buzz around the brand’s business health even louder.

Over a decade ago, Cotton On was one of the first fast fashion brands to enter the Philippine market. Sales were strong, and it quickly became a go-to for trendy, affordable pieces.

But things shifted when bigger global players like Uniqlo and H&M entered the scene and dominated the market.

Shoppers started noticing that Cotton On’s styles felt outdated, and the quality of the fabric and craftsmanship didn’t quite hold up. Some even said the pieces looked like they wouldn’t last more than a few wears.

Sales seemed to dip. Over time, Cotton On became known as the store that was always on sale, with racks full of discounted items almost every day.

Because of this, many started thinking it was only a matter of time before things caught up with the brand.

Liquidation rumors and local reality

The Magnolia closure coincided with a confusing global headline: the voluntary liquidation of Cotton On Asia Pte. Ltd. in Singapore.

Although the Cotton On Group released an official statement on March 31, 2026, clarifying that the liquidated entity was a “non-operating holding company” and that Asian stores (including the Philippines) are unaffected, the damage to consumer confidence was already done.

Still, staff clarified that there’s no shutdown happening. Instead, employees from the Robinsons Magnolia branch are being relocated to other Cotton On stores.

But for now, the questions remain. As long as people keep noticing fewer shoppers, the doubts around Cotton On aren’t going away anytime soon.

Brand Market Perception Strategy Store Status
