After a ₱6-billion investment from SM Prime Holdings, the historic site—originally opened in 1976—is set to reopen in 2027 as a 200,000-square-meter modern lifestyle hub featuring open-air layouts and extensive green spaces designed for the next generation of Manileños.
₱6B poured to complete development after nearly a decade.
The refreshed Harrison Plaza under SM Prime Holdings will finally rise in 2027, nearly a decade after the real estate giant first announced plans to redevelop the historic mall.
SM announced on April 1 that it was injecting ₱6 billion to redevelop Harrison Plaza in Manila. The company opted to retain the original name in recognition of its historic status as the country’s first one-stop shopping mall.
Harrison Plaza opened in 1976 in Malate, Manila. Its opening followed the launch of another historic shopping mall, Ali Mall in Cubao, Quezon City.
In 2016, SM announced plans to redevelop the property in partnership with the city government. The company finalized a buyout in 2018 with the Martel family, who held the original lease on the property. The original Harrison Plaza eventually closed in December 2019 and was demolished in October 2021 to make way for the new development.
The new SM Harrison Plaza will span more than 200,000 square meters, comparable to SM City Davao and SM City Clark. SM said the mixed-use project will feature open layouts, community spaces, and green areas designed to support cultural and social activities.
Manila’s first “one-stop” mall is officially coming back. SM Prime has announced a ₱6-billion revival of Harrison Plaza, scheduled to open in 2027 with over 200,000 sqm of retail, green spaces, and community hubs.
