RJ Perkins was a pre-BGYO trainee at Star Hunt Academy—and appeared in teleseryes.

A Mister Pampanga 2026 contestant has drawn body-shaming comments online after confidently stepping on stage with an unapologetically natural, fuller physique—and challenging traditional pageant standards.

Viral videos captured RJ Perkins of Angeles City—exuding confidence in his curves—during the swimwear competition on April 19. Clad in trunks, he flexed his softer arms and showcased a prominent chest before blowing kisses to the audience. He also walked with gusto, all smiles as he proudly displayed his fuller frame and natural midsection, owning the stage with infectious charisma.

Breaking pageantry standards

However, many users body-shamed him and even gave unsolicited advice. Others were more supportive, noting he has the “face card” and the personality needed to win the pageant.

RJ was a trainee at Star Hunt Academy, the P-pop idol training ground behind BGYO and BINI, though cut his journey short. He also appeared in small roles in teleseryes like “Kadenang Ginto,” “Lyric and Beat,” and “The Iron Heart,” as well as performed in “ASAP Natin ‘To” productions.

The Mister Pampanga preliminary competition will be held on May 3, while the coronation night will be on May 9. The winner will have the chance to join national pageants like Mister Pilipinas Worldwide and Mister Grand Philippines—prerequisites to larger international pageants.
