Lino Cayetano was appointed as general manager of People’s Television Network—bringing the sensibilities of a showbiz executive and a former politician to a rapidly evolving state media.
Cayetano, former Taguig City mayor and television director, was confirmed to the post by Presidential Communications Office Acting Secretary Dave Gomez on Wednesday, June 3. He replaces outgoing chief Maria Lourdes Choa-Fagar.
Gomez said Cayetano brings “a rare wealth of experience from the media, private, and the public sectors” that could help steer PTV-4 in an “ever-evolving multi-media landscape.”
He has directed shows for ABS-CBN, GMA, and TV5. He also co-founded the production company, Rein Entertainment.
The younger brother of senators Pia and Alan Peter Cayetano, Lino later joined politics—serving as Taguig–Pateros 2nd District representative from 2016 to 2019, and as Taguig City mayor from 2019 to 2022.
He holds a mass communication degree from the University of the Philippines and a diploma from the New York Film Academy.
His PTV-4 appointment comes at a time when state media is under pressure to stay relevant in an increasingly digital-first environment.
