A ₱200-per-day job offer tied to content creator duo Joel & Kat’s boneless chicken brand, The Crunch, sparked backlash online.

In a cropped email screenshot posted on Reddit, a branch in an undisclosed location is offering ₱200 daily for a part-time, five-hour shift. Overtime pay is set at ₱45 per hour, subject to management approval.

A text overlay from the uploader read, “kaya pala paldo sila Joel and Kat, kupal magpasahod.”

Netizens called out Joel & Kat—Joel Javier and Katrina Ermino-Javier—over the compensation. “Kulang pa sa lunch at pamasahe ‘yan e. Abonado ka pa,” a commenter said.

In a statement, The Crunch clarified that the brand operates under a franchise model consisting of both company-owned and independently owned branches.

It noted that hiring, staffing, and other day-to-day operations are handled by the respective franchise owners and management teams.

“We would also like to clarify that Joel & Kat were not involved in the creation, approval, or implementation of the specific job posting being circulated online,” it said, adding that it’s coordinating with the branch involved to “ensure alignment” with the company’s “standards and expectations.”

Joel & Kat post lifestyle and comedy videos for over five million followers across TikTok, Facebook, and YouTube. They entered the food business in 2020 via The Crunch, which now has over 200 branches nationwide.

The backlash reflects growing public sensitivity toward wages and working conditions—especially when tied to social media figures—as living costs continue to rise.
