First store set to reopen in Glorietta Mall later this year as UK retail brand reenters Philippine market through new franchise agreement.
Marks and Spencer is set to return to the Philippine market under a new franchisee, the retail chain’s existing partner in Indonesia.
PT Mitra Adiperkasa Tbk (MAP), a leading lifestyle franchising company and M&S’ license holder in Indonesia, signed a new franchise agreement for Philippine stores on June 8. MAP has operated M&S stores in Indonesia and Vietnam for more than 26 years.
The British chain’s central office said it is focusing on “capital-light partnerships with strategic franchise partners” as it continues expanding globally.
Rustan Marketing Specialists, the brand’s Philippine franchise holder for over 40 years, closed its remaining M&S stores on May 3. SSI Group, Rustan’s parent company, said it exited the franchise amid shifting consumer preferences.
MAP said it will reopen stores and online channels later this year. The first store is set to open in Glorietta Mall in Makati City, carrying products across Fashion, Home, Beauty, and Food categories.
