Better travel deals are in store for the rest of June as a big cut in airline fuel surcharges sends ticket prices tumbling.
The Civil Aeronautics Board has officially downgraded the passenger fuel surcharge to Level 12 under its latest advisory issued June 11, with new rates covering June 16 to 30. This follows a steady downward trend from Level 13 on June 1 to 15—and a sharp drop from the record peak of Level 19 in April.
Under Level 12, passengers now pay a fuel surcharge of ₱389 to ₱1,137 for domestic flights and ₱1,284 to ₱9,550 for international routes—on top of the base fare.
For comparison, Level 13 saw domestic surcharges ranging from ₱423 to ₱1,237, and international charges from ₱1,396 to ₱10,385.
At the peak in Level 19, domestic surcharges reached ₱627 to ₱1,834, while international flights climbed to ₱2,070 to ₱15,397.
Filipinos are expected to save thousands of pesos as “revenge travel” becomes more financially accessible once again.
The Philippine Travel Agencies Association, in an interview with tourism platform TTG Asia, earlier said high airfares had discouraged many travelers, prompting some to postpone trips rather than cancel them.
“We are optimistic that the lower fuel surcharge rate and the easing of tensions in the Middle East will help boost travel demand,” PTAA President Jaison Yang was quoted as saying.
The rolling reduction is expected to restart bookings, with budget carriers already launching massive seat sales targeting the upcoming August holidays.
Shorter domestic flights to destinations such as Boracay, Siargao, and Palawan now sit at the lowest baseline, costing just ₱389 to ₱500. Combined with upcoming flash sales, typical ₱5,500 round-trip fares could drop to about ₱3,800 to ₱4,200 for early bookers.
