Janella Salvador’s failed attempt to haggle in South Korea sparks laughs, and highlights a charming culture clash on “Kumusta.”

Janella Salvador got a quick lesson in cultural differences during an episode of “Kumusta” after attempting to bargain while shopping for their restaurant task in South Korea

The actress tried negotiating prices at a local market, only to find out that haggling is far less common in Korean retail spaces compared to many markets in the Philippines. The moment amused viewers and became one of the lighter highlights of the reality series.

“Kumusta” follows Filipino and Korean celebrities as they operate a temporary pop-up restaurant in Gangnam, Seoul. The show brings together Korean superstar Ji Chang-wook and Filipino celebs Jodi Sta. Maria, Janella Salvador, Francine Diaz, and Arci Muñoz, with Michelin-recognized chef JP Anglo leading the kitchen.

Beyond serving dishes such as chicken inasal, sisig, and kare-kare, the series also captures the cast’s real-life experiences navigating Korean culture while introducing Filipino cuisine to local customers.

Janella’s bargaining attempt may not have worked, but it gave viewers a relatable reminder that what feels normal in one country can come as a surprise in another.

As fans joked online: some habits are harder to leave at the airport than your luggage.
