Philippine financial markets weakened further, with stocks surrendering recent gains and the peso posting a third straight day of losses.
Philippine financial markets remained under pressure on Wednesday, June 24, 2026, as both the stock market and the local currency declined, extending volatility that has characterized recent trading sessions.
The Philippine Stock Exchange index (PSEi) dropped 134.85 points, or 2.20%, to close at 5,991.37, falling back below the 6,000 level after briefly recovering above it a day earlier. The decline erased the previous session’s gains and returned the index to low levels seen earlier this month, highlighting the market’s continued struggle to sustain upward momentum.
Peso extends slide
Meanwhile, the Philippine peso also weakened against the US dollar, falling nearly 21 centavos to close at ₱61.552 from ₱61.351 in the previous session.
The local currency reached an intraday high of ₱61.63, around 15 centavos weaker than Tuesday’s rate. The latest finish marked the peso’s third consecutive trading-day decline and pushed it deeper into ₱61 territory after briefly trading closer to the ₱60 level earlier this month.
Wednesday’s session saw both key financial indicators decline, reflecting persistent volatility across local markets as investors continue navigating an uncertain economic environment.
