Christian Bables backs ‘Die Beautiful’ musical cast, weighs in on trans role controversy.
Award-winning actor Christian Bables has thrown his full support behind the highly anticipated stage adaptation of “Die Beautiful: The Musical,” sharing his excitement for the cast while weighing in on the ongoing debate over trans roles.
Bables, who delivered an iconic, award-winning performance as Barbs in the original 2016 film, said he had no direct hand in the casting for the theatrical run but had his own predictions.
“Na-surprise na lang ako na sila, pero meron na akong idea or gut feel,” Bables shared, revealing his initial fancast. “Personally, ang akala kong magti-Trisha si Precious Paula Nicole. Personal pick ko si Maxie as Barbs.”
Despite his initial picks, the actor said he was thrilled that “Drag Race PH” stars Viñas De Luxe and Maxie landed the lead roles.
“When I found out that it will be played by Viñas and Maxie, my God, I got so excited for ‘Die Beautiful.’ I think magiging sobrang okay sila as Trisha,” he said.
Bables also addressed the discourse surrounding the casting of drag queens and cisgender individuals in transgender roles. Speaking as a proud ally, he offered a supportive perspective on the creative process.
“Acting is a different arena. Ibigay natin sa creators kung ano ’yong gusto nila,” he explained. “Okay lang ’yan, hangga’t hindi nakakatapak ng pagkatao or ng isang pinaglalaban, ayos lang ’yan.”
