Viral Maui Taylor–Joyce Jimenez clash fuels calls for “Extra Challenge” comeback.

A resurfaced clip from the September 26, 2005 episode of “Extra Challenge” has reignited online calls for the return of the iconic Philippine reality competition show.

The viral video features actresses Maui Taylor and Joyce Jimenez in a tense on-screen confrontation that unfolded after rule-breaking controversies emerged on the challengers’ first night.

The clip of their argument quickly went viral, prompting a wave of reactions on social media. “Gusto ko ’yung chill lang si Maui, tapos gigil na gigil na si Joyce,” one user commented on a reel posted on GMA Network’s Facebook account.

“’Pag ako nakaaway ng englisera, mananahimik na lang talaga ako para ’di na humaba ang usapan,” another quipped.

“Baka prank lang ’yan. ’Di ako nakanood n’yan na scene eh,” a third commenter said, suggesting the clip may have been unaired footage.

Many netizens expressed nostalgia for the show’s unscripted drama and high-stakes format, noting that programs like “Extra Challenge” are rarely seen on television today. Others directly called for a revival, saying the viral clip proves the show still has strong recall among Filipino audiences.

Originally launched by GMA Network in 1999 as the lifestyle and news magazine show “Extra, Extra,” the program evolved into its extreme reality competition format in 2003. It became one of the network’s pioneering reality programs before ending its broadcast run in 2013.

Known for its physically demanding challenges, dramatic contestant interactions, and memorable hosting lineup led by Paolo Bediones, Miriam Quiambao, and Ethel Booba—and, in its later years, Richard Gutierrez and Marian Rivera—“Extra Challenge” remains one of the most recognizable titles in Philippine reality television history.
