The Cinematheque Centre Manila reopens within Intramuros walls this March

Sleek seats, Dolby Atmos sound, ancient vibes, and artistic films — all inside the Philippine Heritage Building.

Heads up, cinephiles! Cinematheque Centre Manila has a new home, and it’s located within the historic walls of Intramuros. The Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP) announced on February 4, a year after the original theater’s temporary closure at Kalaw St., Ermita, Manila.

With the Cinematheque Centre Manila in Intramuros, the backdrop of Philippine history, FDCP aims to advocate for “alternative” cinema, pivoting the way we see films as a cultural guide to our roots, rather than just a form of entertainment.

Through this collaborative project with the Department of Tourism and Tourism Infrastructure and Enterprise Zone Authority, visitors can look forward to celebrating and immersing themselves in Filipino history and cinema all in one place.

In line with their announcement, FDCP published a teaser of the new theater on social media, introducing a modern and slick interior with red-and-black cushioned seats, Dolby Atmos speakers, and a large projection screen.
