‘That’s Entertainment’ reunion? Kuya Germs’ son teases possible concert

Fans rally behind a possible comeback show as nostalgia builds for iconic TV barkada.

Could one of Philippine television’s most iconic barkadas be heading back to the stage?

Federico Moreno, son of the late German “Kuya Germs” Moreno, stirred excitement among longtime fans after teasing a possible concert featuring the stars of “That’s Entertainment.”

“Hmmm… That’s Entertainment concert. Ano kaya?” Federico wrote on Facebook, leaving the idea deliberately open-ended.

The brief post was enough to send followers into nostalgia mode. Comments immediately expressed support for the project, with some suggesting that the reunion be mounted at the Araneta Coliseum.

“SUPPORT!!!” entertainment journalist Manuel Noel Ferrer commented.

“Good project,” Pilar Mateo added.

Another follower called for a special appearance by The Triplets, the popular singing trio composed of Manilyn Reynes, Sheryl Cruz and Tina Paner.

“Go po sa Big Dome po. Of course, hindi mawawala ang special number ng Triplets,” the commenter wrote.

Others simply urged Moreno to make the reunion happen.

“Puwedeng-puwede! Go na ’yan! ‘That’s Entertainment,’ the reunion!” one fan said.

No official details, performers, venue or concert date have been announced. Moreno’s post, however, appears to be testing public interest in bringing the legendary youth-oriented variety show back before a live audience.

“That’s Entertainment” aired on GMA Network from 1986 to 1996 and became one of the country’s most influential talent programs. Created and hosted by Kuya Germs with Ike Lozada, the daily show divided its young performers into Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday groups.

All five batches would come together for its Saturday edition, where they performed elaborate song-and-dance numbers and competed for the attention of viewers.

More than a television program, “That’s Entertainment” became a massive training ground for young talents. Its alumni include Manilyn Reynes, Sheryl Cruz, Tina Paner, Janno Gibbs, Romnick Sarmenta, Vina Morales, Jean Garcia, Ian Veneracion, Harlene Bautista, Judy Ann Santos, Piolo Pascual, Ruffa Gutierrez, Francis Magalona, John Arcilla and Isko Moreno.

The show ended its decade-long run in 1996 after more than 3,000 episodes, but reunions among its former cast members continue to generate strong nostalgia among viewers who grew up watching them every afternoon.

Federico has yet to confirm whether the concert is already in development or remains an idea.

But judging from the early reactions, many fans are ready to hear the familiar call once again: “That’s entertainment!”
