The August 5 expo will showcase innovations in clean energy, disaster resilience, and the circular economy.
SM Supermalls is bringing together government agencies, businesses, and sustainability advocates on August 5 for the second Sustainability Expo (SUSTEX), an event that highlights how innovation can help build a greener and more resilient Philippines. Beyond the discussions and technology showcases, the expo also reflects the company’s broader effort to make sustainability more meaningful in the everyday lives of Filipinos.
Held in partnership with the Department of Science and Technology at the SMX Convention Center Aura, this year’s SUSTEX carries the theme “Bayanihan Innovation for a Green and Resilient Philippines.” The event will showcase solutions in clean energy, disaster risk reduction, and the circular economy while encouraging collaboration between the public and private sectors.
That approach extends beyond a one-day forum. Since the 1990s, SM has steadily expanded its sustainability efforts beyond environmental initiatives, using its nationwide network of 90 malls to connect Filipinos with jobs, livelihood opportunities, government services, and programs that strengthen local communities.
Across its 90 malls, SM connects Filipinos with jobs, government services, and livelihood opportunities through job fairs that bring employers, agencies, and skills training together in one venue, making on-the-spot hiring more accessible. It also helps micro, small, and medium enterprises reach more customers and expand their businesses, while investing in greener, disaster-resilient malls through energy-efficient systems, responsible water and waste management, cleaner transport facilities, and inclusive community programs led by SM Cares.
“For SM, we believe thriving communities help build a resilient nation and supporting these communities requires sustainable efforts. That is social equity,” said SM Executive Vice President for Marketing Joaquin San Agustin.
He added that the company’s purpose remains centered on serving both customers and surrounding communities by ensuring its initiatives create meaningful value for Filipinos today and in the years to come.
“Our purpose remains to be of service to our customers and surrounding communities. SM deepens this commitment by ensuring our service is meaningful and generates value for Filipinos now and in the decades to come,” San Agustin said.
