IC Mendoza imagines Pinoy cast for ‘The Odyssey.’
What if Christopher Nolan’s “The Odyssey” had a Filipino cast?
TV host and entrepreneur IC Mendoza shared his own fancast for a Philippine adaptation of the epic action fantasy film, naming Jericho Rosales as the titular hero, King Odysseus, and Kristine Hermosa as his wife, Queen Penelope.
On Threads, Mendoza wrote, “If I am producing THE ODYSSEY, Pinoy Version,” before listing his preferred actors for the film’s characters.
He chose Will Ashley as Telemachus, Odysseus’ son; Paolo Avelino as Antinous, one of Penelope’s suitors; and Nadine Lustre as Athena, the Greek goddess of wisdom.
Mendoza also cast Iza Calzado as Calypso, Dolly de Leon as Circe, Elijah Canlas as Sinon, and Marian Rivera as Helen of Troy.
Completing his imagined lineup were Mon Confiado as Eumaeus, Odysseus’ loyal servant; Jake Cuenca as Menelaus, king of Sparta and Helen’s husband; Christian Vasquez as Agamemnon, king of Mycenae; and Carlo Aquino as Eurylochus, Odysseus’ second-in-command.
“Fantasy ko talaga reunion project of Echo at Kristine! #PangakoSayo,” Mendoza wrote, referring to iconic love team and former couple’s hit teleserye in the 2000s.
Several commenters agreed with his choices, with some saying his casting was “perfect.”
“Dolly De Leon being C[i]rce🔥 sobrang naiimagine namin yung sceneeeee bagay na bagay 💯,” one commenter added.
Others offered their own suggestions, including Bea Alonzo for Penelope.
“‘I’ve been sitting on that throne for 20 years na para bang kasalanan ko?!’” one commenter joked, referencing Alonzo’s famous line from the 2004 movie “Four Sisters and a Wedding.”
Interestingly, Rosales had already crossed paths with Damon at the red carpet premiere of “The Odyssey” in Mumbai on July 11. During the event, Damon signed Rosales’ notepad and asked for his name. Rosales explained that it was like the biblical Walls of Jericho.
“Man, you inspire me so much,” Rosales told Damon, who later replied, “Hopefully we work together.”
Directed and written by Nolan, “The Odyssey” is an adaptation of Homer’s ancient Greek epic poem of the same name. The film was released in the Philippines on July 15.
