Philippine shares fell for a second straight session while the peso regained ground against the US dollar, ending the week with mixed signals across financial markets.
Philippine financial markets ended the week on mixed footing on Friday, July 31, 2026, as the Philippine Stock Exchange index (PSEi) extended its losing streak while the peso rebounded from the previous trading session.
The PSEi dropped 69.31 points, or 1.10%, to close at 6,236.44, marking its second consecutive day of losses.
The decline pulled the benchmark back below the 6,300 level, suggesting the market remains under selling pressure as investors continue to navigate a volatile trading environment.
Peso resumes recovery
Meanwhile, the Philippine peso strengthened by 32 centavos to close at ₱61.24 against the US dollar, resuming its recovery after giving up gains in the previous trading session.
The local currency reached an intraday high of ₱61.47, about 11 centavos stronger than the previous closing rate. The latest finish marked a stronger close after its recent record low, although the peso remained in the ₱61 territory.
