Philippine financial markets closed lower on Thursday as stocks retreated from the previous session’s rebound while the peso gave up part of its recent recovery against the US dollar.

Philippine financial markets ended lower on Thursday, July 30, 2026, as both the stock market and the peso retreated after posting gains in recent trading sessions.

The Philippine Stock Exchange index (PSEi) dropped 47.29 points, or 0.74%, to close at 6,305.75, giving up the gains recorded in the previous trading session. The index remained above the 6,300 level, suggesting the market continued to trade within a relatively stable range despite the latest pullback.

Peso snaps gains

The Philippine peso weakened, losing 15 centavos to close at ₱61.56 against the US dollar, trimming part of the gains accumulated over the previous three trading sessions.

Despite the negative finish, the local currency reached an intraday high of ₱61.58, around 7 centavos stronger than Wednesday’s rate. Coming from the decline, the peso remained well above the record low it reached last week, indicating that some of its recent recovery had been preserved.

Thursday’s session showed a pause in the recent growth across Philippine financial markets. While local equities gave back the previous day’s gains and the peso retreated against the US dollar, both remained above the weakest levels seen earlier this month.
