New feature lets users pay without cashing in first, giving Filipinos another way to complete everyday digital transactions.
GCash is making digital payments easier as it prepares to allow users to link their Visa and Mastercard debit or credit cards directly to the app, letting them pay even without enough wallet balance.
The new feature, set to roll out nationwide within August, means users can complete purchases without first cashing in money to their GCash wallets. This could make everyday payments smoother, especially for consumers who rely on digital transactions for shopping, bills, and other expenses.
Users will be able to link up to three Visa or Mastercard cards, choose a default payment card, and manage their linked cards through the app. The move gives Filipinos more flexibility in how they pay while supporting the country’s growing cashless economy.
The feature could also benefit businesses that accept digital payments by giving customers another way to complete purchases, reducing instances when transactions fail because of insufficient wallet funds.
Security measures will remain in place, with card linking requiring one-time password authentication, while eligible transactions may require biometrics or a phone PIN.
The added payment option gives Filipinos more ways to complete everyday purchases while giving businesses another tool to serve customers who prefer cashless transactions.
