PSA data shows more unemployed Filipinos compared with a year ago, highlighting continued pressure on workers and the labor market.
The Philippine labor market faced fresh pressure in June as the number of jobless Filipinos climbed to 2.59 million.
The unemployment rate rose to 4.9% from 4.8% in May, and was higher than the 3.7% recorded a year earlier, according to the Philippine Statistics Authority.
The increase means more Filipinos struggled to find work amid changing economic conditions, while businesses faced a labor market where job creation remained an important concern.
The number of employed Filipinos reached 50.66 million in June, up from 49.63 million in May and slightly higher than 50.47 million a year earlier. However, the employment rate eased to 95.1% from 95.2% in May and 96.3% a year ago.
The latest figures highlight the need for more job opportunities that can keep pace with the growing number of Filipinos seeking employment.
