A ranking of educational content creators has drawn criticism from science communicator John Sherwin Felix, better known online as Lokalpedia, who questioned whether popularity-based lists can meaningfully measure the quality of educational content.
Felix posted about the “16 Best Informative and Educational Content Creators 2026” list published by the Facebook page Pinoy History, saying such rankings are “weird,” especially when coming from organizations outside reputable media and the academe.
Felix added that he had been blocked by the page after repeatedly correcting what he described as historically inaccurate posts.
Pinoy History said its list was narrowed from 311 creators to 50 eligible nominees, with the final 16 allegedly determined by scores from 19 judges from media, education, healthcare, digital content, communications, and content strategy.
The Facebook page, however, did not name the judges.
The page also said its criteria excluded creators who were not Philippine-based, primarily produced political content, held elected office, were inactive, or relied mainly on compilations, AI-generated narration, or anonymous presentations.
The ranking itself placed creators from widely different fields together, including medicine, agriculture, language education, history, and general information, with Lans at the top spot, followed by Doc Alvin and Dr. Kilimanguru.
Felix was notably absent from the list.
“Paano mo ira-rank ang mga educators na galing sa iba’t ibang field?” one commenter asked, while another said the list appeared to reflect “current hype” rather than content quality.
