Lufthansa Technik expands to Clark with new maintenance facility

Operations set to begin by 2028.

Lufthansa Technik Philippines is set to expand its services outside Metro Manila while helping strengthen Clark International Airport as the country’s next big aviation hub, both in terms of capacity and world-class service.

LTP broke ground for its new maintenance, repair, and overhaul facility last August 6. The 157,000-square-meter site sits inside the Clark AeroDistrict—touted to be the country’s first airport city—and is expected to begin operations by 2028.

The MRO center will provide a range of widebody support services and include facilities such as a paint shop and workshops for non-destructive testing.

LTP has been operating solely out of Ninoy Aquino International Airport in Manila for over 25 years. The company is a joint venture between MacroAsia Corp. and Germany-based Lufthansa Technik AG.

The new facility will allow a greater variety of aircraft outside Metro Manila to receive timely maintenance, supporting the expected growth in aviation activity at the Northern Luzon hub.

At the Manila hub, LTP specializes in the MRO of Airbus A330, A340, and A380 models, as well as the Boeing 747. The Clark facility will also expand the company’s capabilities to accommodate the Airbus A350 and Boeing 787.

As NAIA becomes increasingly congested for passengers, cargo, and aircraft alike, expanding aircraft services to emerging aviation hubs can help spur economic activity and technological innovation while creating employment and tourism opportunities outside the capital.
