International actress Ruby Ruiz joins Jolina Magdangal and Marvin Agustin in TV5’s new morning series.

Internationally recognized actress Ruby Ruiz is stepping into TV5’s upcoming morning comedy-drama “Mommy Guard” as the main villain, strict school principal Mrs. Bulalakaw.

Exclusive photos sent by director Roman Perez Jr. to radar Entertainment offer a first look at Ruiz in action. Her character pulls strings behind the scenes to get Happy, the son of security guard Julyana Dimaapi (Jolina Magdangal), expelled. Direk Roman noted, however, that the boy actually prefers going to an art school anyway.

Premiering Sept. 14 right before “Eat Bulaga!,” the series follows Julyana’s struggles as a single mom and security guard, leading her path to cross with a wealthy school owner played by Marvin Agustin.

Adding Ruiz to the cast brings serious star power. Fresh off her international turn alongside Nicole Kidman in Amazon Prime’s “Expats,” she gives the lighthearted series a compelling edge as Jolina’s direct rival.

The show also marks the big TV comeback for Marvin and Jolina. As one of the late ’90s most iconic love teams, the “MarJo” pairing defined a whole era of local rom-coms and pop culture trends. Decades later, their onscreen chemistry still hits the sweet spot for loyal fans while bringing a classic dynamic to a new audience.
