FIRST ON RADAR: Yeng Constantino targets writing a book on mental health, marriage after ‘Biyaheng Bente’

OPM star Yeng Constantino turns to book authoring to share her intimate personal journey.

Fresh off the triumphant second night of her “Biyaheng Bente” 20th anniversary concert, OPM icon Yeng Constantino revealed a surprising pivot for her next creative venture: writing her first book.

Known for translating the raw, lived experiences of Filipinos into beloved anthems like “Time In” and “Jeepney Love Story,” the singer-songwriter is now looking beyond the recording studio.

When asked what societal trend or experience she might mold into her next hit track, Constantino dropped an exclusive revelation with radar Entertainment: she intends to become an author.

“Gusto ko mag-sulat ng libro, actually… ‘yon ‘yong next na project na gusto kong isulat,” Constantino shared candidly during a post-show interview alongside concert director John Prats.

While fans may be eagerly awaiting a follow-up album to celebrate her two decades in the industry, the artist feels a different medium is necessary for the stories she wants to share next.

She explained that her debut book will explore deeply personal territory, focusing on her mental health journey with persistent depressive disorder and the intimate realities of her marriage.

Her relationship with husband Victor “Yan” Asuncion has long been admired by supporters, and Constantino aims to pull back the curtain on how they maintain such a strong foundation.

“There’s so much sa relationship namin ni Yan na hindi alam ng mga tao,” she mused. “And sometimes we ask, paano ba nag-wo-work ‘tong relationship natin? Bakit kaya sobrang okay natin?” The singer noted that colleagues often point out how their deep affection hasn’t faded since their early days together.

The creative process for this literary debut is already taking shape. Constantino shared that their regular workout sessions frequently double as brainstorming sessions.

“Sometimes ‘pag nagwo-work out kami, nagbabatuhan kami ng ideas. Paano nga nag-wo-work ‘to? Tapos may mga nabubuo na kaming ideas,” she explained, highlighting her husband’s collaborative role in the project.

While her music remains a core pillar of Original Pilipino Music, this shift signals a fresh era of storytelling for the hitmaker. “So hopefully magawa namin ‘yon,” Constantino concluded. “More than a song or an album, I’m looking forward to writing a book. Sana magawa ko ‘yon.”

Since winning Pinoy Dream Academy in 2006, Constantino has built a powerhouse career behind hit tracks like “Chinito,” “Paasa,” and “Hawak Kamay.” Currently managed by Cornerstone Entertainment, her celebrated 20-year catalog moves next to Cebu for the continuation of her “Biyaheng Bente” concert tour on September 20.
