The senator celebrates her former theater castmate’s historic Hollywood Walk of Fame milestone with nostalgic photos.
Senator Risa Hontiveros revisited her childhood theater roots with Lea Salonga as she congratulated her former “The Sound of Music” castmate on a historic milestone.
Hontiveros shared throwback photos from Repertory Philippines’ 1980 staging of the musical, where she played Louisa von Trapp while Salonga portrayed her younger sister, Brigitta.
“Congratulations to my ‘Sound of Music’ castmate, Lea Salonga, for being the first Filipino artist on the Hollywood Walk of Fame!” Hontiveros wrote.
“Mabuhay ka, Lea! You’ve always made our country proud.”
The unexpected connection surprised netizens, with one reacting, “Grabe! Very unexpected duo! Now ko lang nalaman na batang teatro pala si SenRi.”
Another commenter asked Hontiveros to reunite the former cast, writing, “I was wondering how all the cast look like now. Maybe you could post a group glow-up, madam senator?”
The 1980 production also featured Menchu Lauchengco-Yulo, Raymond Lauchengco, Monique Wilson, Javier Arriaga, and Angela Adams
Decades later, the cast reunited virtually in 2020 for a performance of Ryan Cayabyab’s “Paraiso.” Now, Salonga’s Walk of Fame milestone has once again brought their theatre-era connection into the spotlight.
