Housemates Wealand Ferrer, Gino Roque say PBB isn’t scripted but isn’t ‘100% true’

Former housemates reveal how selective editing and untold stories shape the reality show’s drama.

Former “Pinoy Big Brother: Otso“ Big 4 housemate Wealand Ferrer has weighed in on the long-running question: “Is PBB scripted?”

Ferrer, who reached the Big Four after winning the “Big Jump Challenge” in the 2019 adult batch, said the moments inside the house are real because housemates do not follow a script.

“Yong moments sa loob ng bahay, totoo siya kasi wala naman tayong script na sinusundan doon,” he said. However, he stopped short of calling the show completely authentic, noting that not everything captured inside the house makes it to television.

“Hindi siya fake, hindi rin siya 100% true kasi may mga untold naman tayo na reasons kung bakit natin ginagawa ‘yon,” Ferrer explained. 

For him, editing is part of how reality television works: “Kailangan nga naman magkaroon ng story… sa lahat ng production naman kailangan mong lagyan ng story.”

Fellow Otso alum Gino Roque added another factor, “They film us 24/7, ang pinapakita lang nila on TV is 20 minutes.” Roque, the “Businessman of Steel of Quezon City,” is an entrepreneur, actor, and reality star from the same 2019 batch.

The comments reignited a discussion among viewers, with one netizen saying, “Gano’n naman lahat ng reality show,” while claiming some housemates and guests were briefed beforehand and that editing could affect how conversations and personalities appear.

Others accused PBB of manipulating narratives, particularly when romantic pairings are involved. One commenter claimed that editing could make a potential love team appear meaningful even without context.

Another wrote, “Kawawa talaga kapag ikaw ang biktima… papasamain ka ng todo,” referring to how editing may influence public perception.

Ferrer’s comments have since revived an old reality-TV question. If viewers only see a fraction of what happens, how much of the story belongs to the housemates—and how much belongs to the edit?
