Gen Z mistakes Daniel Padilla for original singer of Teeth’s ‘Prinsesa’

The iconic band Teeth recalls an amusing, multi-generational fan mix-up ahead of their massive reunion concert.

A generational mix-up over one of OPM’s most recognizable rock songs had Teeth looking back at how easily musical history can get lost.

During the recent mediacon for Teeth, the iconic Filipino alternative rock and grunge band recalled an encounter with a young fan who approached them while identifying himself as a Daniel Padilla supporter.

“One time may lumapit sa ’min na fan ni Daniel Padilla,” the band shared. The young listener reportedly thanked them for “covering Daniel’s song,” referring to “Prinsesa.”

It was only then that the kid learned the unexpected twist.

“Sila ‘yong original singer no’n,” the child’s uncle clarified.

Released as part of Daniel Padilla’s self-titled debut album in 2012 under Star Records, Padilla’s version introduced “Prinsesa” to another generation of listeners. But the song traces back to Teeth, one of the defining bands of the 1990s OPM alternative rock boom.

Formed in Manila in 1993, Teeth became known for tracks including “Laklak,” “Prinsesa,” and “Shooting Star,” with members Glenn Jacinto, Jerome Velasco, Andrew “Dok” Sergio, Pedz Narvaja, and Mike Dizon.

The amusing encounter also highlights how covers can sometimes become a younger generation’s first point of connection to songs that existed long before they discovered them.

Teeth is currently marking its 33rd year with the “Year 33: TEETH The Reunion-Legacy Tour,” with its Manila stop set for September 5, 2026, featuring Kamikazee and Agaw Agimat. The tour will also visit Davao on September 12, Iloilo on September 19, and Cebu on September 26.
