Julie Anne San Jose, Rita Daniela, Enzo Almario, and Cholo Bismonte serenade their late groupmate.
What was supposed to be a reunion became a farewell.
Former Sugarpop members Julie Anne San Jose, Rita Daniela, Enzo Almario, and Cholo Bismonte came together at the wake of their late groupmate Vanessa Rangadhol, serenading her one last time and bringing back memories of the group that began after they became finalists on QTV’s “Popstar Kids” in 2006.
Vanessa, fondly remembered as Wani, died at 30 on August 19. Her family later shared that she suffered a severe traumatic brain injury resulting in an internal brain hemorrhage following an accidental fall.
The gathering carried a painful irony. The former groupmates had reportedly been discussing a Sugarpop reunion, with Julie Anne revealing that they had hoped to reunite as part of her upcoming 20th anniversary concert.
Instead, the four returned to sing for Vanessa at her wake.

“Pop Star Kids reunion… but not the kind we ever wanted.” one netizen wrote.
Another noted how little had changed in their voices despite the years, “Crazy how they still sound the same kahit ilang years na nilang di kinakanta yung song. Season 1 was really that good, they’re literally born to be singers.”
The reunion also revived calls to continue their planned concert in Vanessa’s memory. “I hope ituloy pa rin yung reunion concert para kay Wani,” a fan commented.
Clips of the group performing together circulated online under sentiments such as “SugarPop Reunited para kay Vanessa,” while fans revisited their musical legacy, including their vocals on the popular track “DOTA O Ako.”
For a group whose story began with five young finalists finding their voices together, their latest reunion was never supposed to happen at a wake.
But perhaps the most heartbreaking part is that they still had a song left to sing together.
