Viral throwback clips of GMA’s iconic lie detector segment trigger massive online calls for a comeback.
Throwback clips of “Don’t Lie to Me,” the beloved lie-detector segment of GMA-7’s “Showbiz Central,” are making the rounds online, sending netizens into a nostalgia spiral over its hilarious formula.
Hosted by comedian John “Sweet” Lapus, the segment put celebrity guests on a lie-detector machine while asking them direct questions. But when the machine detected a lie, it was Lapus who got “punished,” breaking into an energetic dance number to the segment’s catchy music.
“‘Yong interviewee ang nagsinungaling pero interviewer ang pinaparusahan,” one netizen quipped.
The renewed interest has also sparked calls to bring back the show and its signature segment, with fans pitching Joy “Jusa” Barcoma, dubbed the “Pambansang Jusa,” as Lapus’ potential successor.
Barcoma has earned praise for her “10/10 hosting skills,” particularly her charismatic stage presence, quick wit, confident communication, and ability to handle chaotic, high-energy crowds. Her BA in Broadcast Communication from the Polytechnic University of the Philippines also complements her structured delivery during interviews and serious conversations.
Her adaptability spans television, live events, brand launches, and digital platforms, including GMA’s “Unang Hirit,” while her internet-savvy humor has made her banter especially relatable to younger audiences.
“IBALIK ‘TO TA’S SI JOY BARCOMA ‘YONG IHAHAGIS HAGIS,” a fan wrote.
