FACT CHECK: Pinduoduo is viral, but is it legit?

While legit, it comes with aggressive ads, 2.8 star rating, and payment options many Filipinos can’t use.

If your feed has been flooded with ads for a shopping app selling things at prices that look like typos, you are not alone.

Pinduoduo is probably the app behind those deals, offering shoppers prices that can look significantly cheaper than what they are used to seeing on other e-commerce platforms.

That aggressive push has put Pinduoduo in front of Filipino shoppers who may be encountering the platform for the first time—and the question in every comment section is the same: is it legit?

The company itself is real. Pinduoduo is one of China’s largest e-commerce platforms, operated by PDD Holdings, the same parent behind Temu. Its model connects shoppers directly with third-party merchants, helping keep prices low through large-scale transactions.

The app is available on Apple’s App Store, listed under Shanghai Xunmeng Information Technology Co. On Android, however, there is still no straightforward download through the Google Play Store, leaving users to look elsewhere for APKs. That’s where the risk of copycat apps and unofficial download links comes in.

Still, Pinduoduo’s reception on the App Store has not been kind. As of writing, it sits at 2.8 stars out of 5 from over 200 ratings.

Most complaints center on the interface, which is mostly in Chinese characters and can make basic navigation a guessing game.

Users have also pointed to limited payment options, with some reporting failed card transactions and the lack of familiar payment methods, including cash on delivery. There are also complaints about shipping availability.

These are individual user reports and do not necessarily reflect every Filipino shopper’s experience.

Beyond these reported issues, there are also copycat pages and posts declaring an official launch, along with APK links from unfamiliar sites.

Pinduoduo is legit. But that does not mean every Pinduoduo ad, APK, or download link is.

Filipino shoppers should do their due diligence before downloading the app, especially on Android.
