The peso lost over three centavos to extend its slide, while local shares dropped over 12 points to remain pinned below the 5,900 mark.
Philippine financial markets kicked off the trading week in negative territory on Monday, September 21, 2026, as both the Philippine peso and the Philippine Stock Exchange index (PSEi) extended their loss streaks.
The PSEi shed 12.12 points, or 0.21%, to finish at 5,843.79, marking its second consecutive session of declines.
The benchmark index remained stuck below the 6,000 threshold for a second straight day, continuing to feel the effects of last week’s broader market sell-off.

Pressure on the local currency persisted throughout the trading day, pushing it to an intraday low of ₱62.84 as it stayed firmly above the ₱62 mark.
The PSEi struggled to regain ground following Friday’s sharp drop, while the peso edged closer toward recent historic low levels.
