The peso gained over two centavos to pull back from its historic low, while local shares tumbled over 60 points to hover near the 6,000 mark.
Philippine financial markets saw diverging trends on Tuesday, September 15, 2026, as the Philippine peso managed a slight rebound while the Philippine Stock Exchange index (PSEi) suffered a sharp decline.
The PSEi tumbled 67.29 points, or 1.11%, to close at 6,007.78, erasing the gains achieved in the previous trading session.
Despite the heavy drop, the benchmark index managed to hover just above the 6,000 threshold, keeping its multi-session staying power intact for now.
Peso recovers slightly from record low
Meanwhile, the Philippine peso gained 2.5 centavos to close at ₱62.835 against the US dollar, rebounding slightly from Monday’s record low finish of ₱62.86.
The local currency touched an intraday low of ₱62.925, weakening by 5 centavos compared to the previous session’s intraday trough of ₱62.875, as pressure continued to keep it held firmly past the ₱62 mark.
Tuesday’s session underscored lingering headwinds across local asset classes. While the peso snapped its loss streak with a mild uptick, the stock market faced steep selling pressure that dragged equity valuations close to breaking below key psychological support.
