Vilma Santos remains unbothered by the National Artist exclusion, expressing gratitude for her legendary career.
After more than six decades in show business, Vilma Santos is making it clear that she will not measure her legacy by a title she did not receive.
The Star for All Seasons remains unfazed by her exclusion from the latest roster of National Artists, choosing instead to focus on the blessings and opportunities that have shaped her remarkable career.
For Santos, recognition is meaningful, but it is not something she feels the need to chase. She believes that what is meant for her will come at the right time and if it does not, she is perfectly at peace with it.
“Prinsipyo ko na ever since sa buhay ay, ‘If it’s meant to be, it is meant to be. If it is for you, it is for you.’ Kung hindi nasasali, it is fine with me,” Santos shared.
Rather than dwell on the distinction that eluded her, the veteran actress looks at her approximately 60 years in the entertainment industry as a gift in itself.
“Sa animnapung taon ko sa industriya, palagay ko ang naibalik sa akin ng industriya ay malaking regalo na,” she said.
For Santos, the love, opportunities and respect she has received throughout her career already carry immense value. At this stage of her life, she would rather appreciate those blessings than allow disappointment or negativity to take away from them.
“There is so much more in life,” she added.
Her perspective also reflects a shift in priorities. Beyond awards and prestigious titles, Santos values the people closest to her, the life she has built and the peace that comes with knowing she has already made a lasting mark on the industry.
After six decades of entertaining generations of Filipinos, Santos says recognition may come, or it may not but gratitude remains.
