Kathryn Bernardo is making “Someone, Someday” audiences debate her acting skills online, with viewers split over whether her restrained performance effectively conveys her character’s emotions.

The actress recently drew criticism for her performance in the series, with some viewers questioning whether her expressions were changing enough to reflect her character’s emotions. One comment even asked, “Seems like her face is not moving at all. Nagparetoke ba?”

Another viewer was more blunt: “Nag-iba na umarte si Kathryn. Hindi na siya magaling tulad ng dati. Kulang sa emosyon!”

But a recent intense scene involving Rita Avila and Maja Salvador appears to have shifted the conversation, as other viewers praised Kathryn for delivering emotion largely through her eyes and restrained expressions.

One viewer defended her acting, arguing that emotional intensity does not always require shouting or dramatic outbursts.

“Kaya sa nagsasabi na hindi magaling umarte si Kathryn, paano? Nasanay kasi kayo sa kapag sumigaw, magaling na. Kapag nagwala, magaling na. Ang tunay na magaling yung kahit hindi sumigaw o magsalita pero sa mata pa lang damang-dama mo na.”

Another defended the actress against the criticism, writing, “Hindi niya mararating ang tuktok kung pucho-pucho lang acting niya. Kaya wa epek pa rin yang campaign niyo against her.”

Meanwhile, clips from previous episodes resurfaced, with viewers highlighting the emotional tension between Kathryn and Maja’s performances.

“Mata-mata ang labanan!” one fan wrote, praising their casting and saying their emotionally charged stares were enough to make viewers feel uneasy.

In “Someone, Someday,” Kathryn plays Benilda “Billy” Cariño, the hardworking CEO of dating app LoveList, whose life becomes complicated after befriending Abigail “Abi” Mercado, played by Maja Salvador, who hides a dangerous agenda behind a fake identity. James Reid plays Billy’s childhood best friend, Jordan Valentin.

The Dreamscape Entertainment series premiered on July 27 and continues to air weeknights at 8:45 PM, while streaming on Netflix Philippines and iWantTFC.
