The local currency touched an intraday low of ₱62.825, weakening by 3 centavos compared to Thursday’s intraday trough of ₱62.795, despite the stronger closing rate.
Equities extend decline for fifth straight day
Meanwhile, the Philippine Stock Exchange index (PSEi) edged down by 0.44 points, or 0.01%, to close at 5,629.03, extending its decline for a fifth consecutive session. The index remained near the 5,600 level after falling sharply throughout the week.
Friday’s session brought a mixed end to a volatile trading week across local financial markets. While the PSEi managed to stabilize and flatten out after days of heavy losses, the peso staged a sharp rebound to pull back from near-record lows against the US dollar.
