Actor’s fan meet comes amid lingering controversy over Kim Sae-ron allegations.
Kim Soo Hyun is returning to Manila, but not everyone is welcoming him back.
The announcement of his return via the “OUR FOREVER with you” fan meet on Oct. 2 at the SM Mall of Asia Arena immediately drew mixed reactions online, with some users calling out organizer BENCH for giving the actor a platform.
One critic wrote, “Jusko bagsakan talaga ng problematic at flop actors ‘tong PH! Sana flop.”
Another commenter went further: “I’ll be judging everyone who will be attending.”
The backlash stems from allegations that surfaced in 2025 involving Kim and late actress Kim Sae-ron. Kim denied that their relationship began when she was a minor and maintained that they dated only when she was an adult.
But the legal picture has since shifted.
In July 2026, Seoul police decided not to refer Kim to prosecutors over the child welfare allegations, citing insufficient evidence. Investigators also reportedly determined that materials circulated online, including audio and chat evidence, had been manipulated or fabricated using generative AI.
The development has fueled a competing narrative online, with Kim’s supporters defending him and pointing to the police findings.
“For those who aren’t updated,” one supporter wrote, before citing legal actions taken against people accused of spreading the allegations.
Still, the police decision has not erased the controversy among fans and critics.
As Kim resumes public activities, his Manila appearance in October is shaping up to be more than a comeback event. It is also another test of whether audiences are ready to move past the controversy.
