‘Anti-leftover’ toilet design in BGC Korean BBQ resto raises sanitation concerns

While the restaurant was not named, commenters identified it as the Samgyupsalamat Uptown branch in Bonifacio Global City, Taguig.

Samgyupsalamat is known for its affordable unlimited meat promos, but it charges accordingly for leftovers. Various sources online put the fee at ₱350 per table.

Netizens suspect the toilet design is to prevent customers from disposing of leftover food. Since takeout is also prohibited under the restaurant’s unlimited promos, some customers resort to disposing of the leftovers in the toilet to avoid paying extra.

While the net is seemingly meant to prevent food from being discarded, netizens pointed out that the design may also pose sanitation concerns.

Commenters remarked that customers may be unable to defecate properly, while stains and odors can easily build up on the net since it may not be built to deal with bodily waste.

The Sanitation Code of the Philippines does not explicitly prohibit the modification of toilets at commercial establishments, but it notes that restroom facilities must be designed to eliminate the risk of infection.
