The iconic Tony Award-winning show takes center stage once again at The Theatre at Solaire.
Tony Award winning musical “Chicago” will return to Manila for a limited run from March 9 to 28, at The Theatre at Solaire, more than a decade after its last Philippine staging in 2014.
Presented by GMG Productions in association with Barry and Fran Weissler and David Ian, the production will mark the musical’s return to the same venue where it opened in the Philippines.
The Manila run is part of the show’s 30th anniversary celebrations on Broadway. Since its revival opened in 1996, “Chicago” has staged more than 11,700 performances and reached over 35 million people across 38 countries and more than 525 cities, according to the production.
“It’s such an honor to be chosen as the inaugural production at the grand opening of The Theatre at Solaire back in 2014, so for ‘Chicago’ to return to Manila next year and take that same stage again is a real homecoming,” producer Barry Weissler said.
Carlos Candal, CEO of GMG Productions, said the musical’s themes of fame, ambition, scandal and celebrity remain relevant to audiences.
Set in 1920s Chicago, the musical follows Roxie Hart, a housewife and nightclub dancer who faces trial for murder. With the help of lawyer Billy Flynn, she attempts to turn her case into a media spectacle, putting her in competition with Velma Kelly, another performer and fellow inmate seeking the spotlight.
The production features music by John Kander, lyrics by Fred Ebb and a book by Ebb and Bob Fosse. Its best-known numbers include “All That Jazz,” “Cell Block Tango,” “Razzle Dazzle” and “Nowadays.”
The original Broadway revival was directed by Tony Award winner Walter Bobbie and choreographed by Tony Award winner Ann Reinking. The musical has won six Tony Awards, including Best Musical Revival.
David Ian, co-producer of Crossroads Live, said the Manila engagement is part of the production’s 30th anniversary global tour.
The musical’s return follows its 2014 Manila engagement, which inaugurated The Theatre at Solaire.
Tickets will be available through TicketWorld, with the UnionBank cardholder presale running from October 12 to 15, 2026, offering a 10% discount. The GMG Productions waitlist presale follows on October 16, also with a 10% discount, before tickets go on sale to the general public on October 19.
