The Philippine peso fell past the ₱63.09 level to mark a new all-time low against the dollar, while local shares rose 15 points to extend gains for a third day.
The Philippine peso sank to a new all-time record low, weakening by nearly 11 centavos to close at ₱63.090 against the US dollar on Monday, October 19, 2026, surpassing the previous record of ₱63.060 set last Thursday.
The local currency touched an intraday low of ₱63.170, gaining 6 centavos compared to Friday’s intraday low of ₱63.230, while remaining anchored above the ₱63 mark.
Equities extend gains for third straight session
Meanwhile, the Philippine Stock Exchange index (PSEi) climbed 15.20 points, or 0.26%, to close at 5,797.90, extending its gains for a third consecutive session. The index moved closer to the 5,800 level after recovering from its recent decline toward 5,600.
Monday’s session presented a contrasting picture across local financial markets to start the trading week. While the PSEi continued to inch back toward the 5,800 resistance level on sustained buying interest, the peso succumbed to broader foreign exchange pressures to push deeper into uncharted historical territory against the US dollar.
