Industry sales jump 17% as automakers recover from August’s weather disruptions.
The auto industry posted a strong rebound in September, with vehicle sales climbing past 40,000 units as buyers returned after weather disruptions slowed purchases in August.
The Chamber of Automotive Manufacturers of the Philippines Inc. (CAMPI) and the Truck Manufacturers Association Inc. (TMA) reported combined sales of 35,722 units in September, up 20.6% from the previous month. Including estimates from brands outside the two groups, total industry sales surpassed 40,240 units, a 17% monthly increase and the third-highest monthly tally of 2026.
Both conventional internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles and electrified vehicles (xEVs) posted gains, suggesting that demand extended across different powertrain options. ICE sales rebounded 19% month on month, while xEV sales rose 14%.
CAMPI president Jose Maria Atienza said the September performance puts the industry back on its expected recovery path ahead of the final months of the year. The group is aiming to sustain the momentum and deliver a strong overall performance in 2026.
Toyota Motor Philippines led sales among CAMPI-TMA member brands with 18,157 units, followed by Mitsubishi Motors Philippines with 3,962 units. Suzuki Philippines ranked third with 1,466 units, ahead of Ford Group Philippines at 1,187 and Honda Cars Philippines at 1,136.
The rebound offers a boost to automakers and dealerships heading into the year’s final stretch, although sustaining sales growth will be key to finishing 2026 on a strong note.
