“Die Beautiful” prod chooses ‘accountability over cancellation’ after confronting allegations.
“Drag Race Philippines” Season 3 winner Maxie Andreison has addressed the backlash over her casting as Trisha in the highly anticipated “Die Beautiful: The Musical.”
The controversy stems from a video that resurfaced online showing the drag artist slapping and kicking a transgender woman during an altercation. The incident prompted critics to question her suitability for a role centered on a trans woman who navigates and survives violence.
In a recent social media post, Maxie expressed gratitude for the opportunity while acknowledging the public’s calls for accountability.
“I know there are still conversations about accountability, and I hear you,” she wrote. “Sineseryoso ko ang mga concerns na ito, at naniniwala ako na ang growth ay hindi natatapos sa isang apology or conversation. It means continuously learning, listening, reflecting, and doing better.”
Maxie says apology is not enough, continues learning is on her getting cancelled for violence.

Maxie also revealed that private reconciliation and forgiveness had taken place long before the issue gained traction online, offering an explanation for her recent silence.
“I’m keeping my head down and I’m giving myself the space to reflect, learn, and work on becoming a better person without making everything public,” she wrote, adding that genuine change is measured by actions behind closed doors rather than declarations on social media.
Defending the casting decision, “Die Beautiful” filmmaker and writer Jun Robles Lana said the production team did not ignore the allegations of assault.
During a recent press conference, Lana said the team confronted the issue directly.
“We take it seriously, and we didn’t look away from it… Violence is not acceptable,” he said.
Lana explained that after a serious discussion with Maxie’s team, the production decided to give greater weight to her remorse and efforts to change.
“We saw her remorse. We decided to choose accountability over cancelation,” he said, explaining the team’s decision.
Maxie will share the role of Trisha with fellow “Drag Race Philippines” standout Viñas Deluxe in the upcoming stage adaptation of Lana’s hit film.
The musical will feature two pairings, with Andreison playing Trisha opposite Chamyto, while Deluxe will star alongside Lance Reblando. Both Chamyto and Reblando will portray Barbs, Trisha’s fiercely loyal best friend, offering audiences two interpretations of the beloved characters’ dynamic.
“Die Beautiful: The Musical” will open IdeaFirst Live’s upcoming season in June 2027 at the Proscenium Theater. The production will also feature Audie Gemora, Karylle, and Esang de Torres.
According to online posts, presale tickets are available at Power Mac Center Spotlight Blackbox Theater during the run of another IdeaFirst Live production, “About Us But Not About Us.”
