Music on the move: Are surprise gigs replacing traditional concerts for new artists like Angela Ken?

Instead of grand stages and sold-out venues, Angela Ken is choosing a more intimate way to connect with listeners— through busking.

The Kapamilya singer-songwriter is bringing her latest EP, “Panahon,” directly to fans with a series of performances across Metro Manila malls, turning everyday public spaces into live music venues.

The artist behind the pandemic hit-song “Ako Naman Muna” is set to perform at SM City Baliwag on, tomorrow, May 12; SM City Sta. Mesa on May 14; SM Mall of Asia on May 15; SM Southmall on May 18; and SM City Fairview on May 20.

The rising trend of artists staging mall busking tours reflects how live music is becoming more accessible and personal for audiences. Instead of waiting for major concerts, fans get to experience performances up close, often for free.

Released under Tarsier Records, “Panahon” features tracks inspired by changing seasons and emotions, including “kahapon,” “panahon,” “simula ngayon,” “baka bukas,” “kulimlim,” and “pwede bang mamaya?”
