4-year-old Skye Aguirre conquers all 82 Philippine provinces on Independence Day.

Real education isn’t confined to a classroom; it is learned on bumpy boat rides and muddy trails. On June 12, 2026, as the country celebrated Independence Day, four-year-old Athena Skye Aguirre reached her final province in Batanes, conquering the legendary Project PH 82 challenge.

As the 339th finisher in history, Skye is one of the youngest Filipinos to traverse the entire archipelago. For her mother, Cindy Eunice, this seven-year odyssey proved that dreams—no matter how delayed or detoured by life—are always worth pursuing.

From a random tour joiner to lifelong partnership

The groundwork for this monumental family achievement began in 2018 when Cindy met Carlo Aguirre during a random tour in Coron, Palawan. Carlo inspired her to take on the daunting 82-province challenge, and the two fell in love while exploring the country together.

They initially planned to complete the challenge before their 2020 wedding, but the pandemic disrupted their timeline and canceled their dream beach wedding.

However, this painful detour became a beautiful addition; once travel restrictions eased, they hit the road again with a new toddler “joiner”—their daughter, Skye.

Debunking stigmas and reclaiming the grassroots

For Cindy, traveling all 82 provinces was a transformative journey, not a race. By moving at their own pace, the family evolved from casual tourists into fierce environmental advocates.

The odyssey also shattered deeply ingrained misconceptions about Mindanao; instead of a conflict-ridden landscape, they discovered a peaceful cradle of breathtaking waterfalls, mountains, and unmatched local kindness.

By swapping traditional luxury for the grit of backpacking with a toddler, they taught Skye an invaluable lesson no textbook can replicate: the best views in life are earned through patience, resilience, and sacrificing comfort.

A family of wanderers

Skye’s Independence Day completion also cements a legendary status for the Aguirre family within the Philippine backpacking community. Her father, Carlo, alongside his twin brother Paulo (the Wander Twins), previously made Project82 history as the first set of twin brothers to successfully visit all Philippine provinces.

With Skye finishing her map alongside her mother, they have become the only twin-brother legacy where immediate family members have each individually conquered all 82 provinces. Guided by the travel expertise of the Wander Twins, the family successfully navigated every single crossing safely.
