President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has appointed Dr. Beverly Lorraine C. Ho as the new president and chief executive officer of the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth).
The Presidential Communications Office announced Ho’s appointment, highlighting her extensive background in public health, universal health care, and health policy.
Ho previously served in several key positions at the Department of Health, including Assistant Secretary of Health for the Public Health Services Team, Undersecretary of Health and officer-in-charge of the Public Health Services Team, director of the Health Promotion Bureau, and director of the Disease Prevention and Control Bureau.
She also served as special assistant to the health secretary for Universal Health Coverage and as an alternate representative to the PhilHealth Board, where she chaired the Benefits Committee.
Ho’s background also includes work as chief of the Research Division under the DOH Health Policy Development and Planning Bureau.
She earned her Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of the Philippines Manila, a Master in Public Health from the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, and a bachelor’s degree in Biology, cum laude, from UP Diliman.
Her recognitions include the Leadership Award in Public Health Practice from the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health in 2024, recognition as one of the Ten Outstanding Young Men by JCI Philippines in 2022, and as one of the Ten Outstanding Young Women for Nation’s Service in the same year.
Ho takes over the state health insurer at a time when PhilHealth remains central to the government’s push for universal health care and expanded health benefits for Filipinos.
