‘Edjop’ filmmakers bring campus tour to Filipino youth before Sept. 16 opening

Katski Flores, cast to hold student conversations on activism, courage and Edgar Jopson’s legacy.

Filmmakers behind the upcoming biopic “Edjop” are taking their campaign straight to campuses with the launch of “Edjop Campus Conversations,” a youth-focused forum set ahead of the film’s nationwide release on September 16.

Instead of a traditional press tour, the initiative brings director and co-writer Katski Flores and members of the cast directly to universities, where they will engage students in dialogue about the life and legacy of 1970s activist Edgar “Edjop” Jopson.

The program will feature exclusive, never-before-seen footage from the film, followed by open discussions that invite students to reflect on issues raised in the story, including complicity, conscience, and courage. Organizers said the goal is to connect Edjop’s story to the realities and questions faced by today’s youth.

“This is the linchpin of the campaign,” Flores said. “We wanted to do something aligned with why we made ‘Edjop’ in the first place. This felt very Edjop.”

The campus tour will kick off in late August, with the following stops: 

• August 26 — Southwestern University PHINMA, Cebu
• August 27 — Ateneo de Zamboanga University
• September 1 — University of the Philippines Diliman
• September 2 — University of Santo Tomas, 1 PM
• September 2 — Far Eastern University Manila, 4:30 PM
• September 4 — Ateneo de Manila University
• September 11 — Xavier University, Cagayan de Oro 

More dates may be added.

The conversations are not film screenings but interactive forums where students can ask questions and share perspectives with the filmmakers. The approach mirrors Jopson’s own style of engagement as a former student leader and president of the National Union of Students of the Philippines, known for directly engaging with communities.

“Kaya didirecho na rin kami sa inyo, dear Kabataan. Galawang Edjop,” Flores said.

The film’s cast includes Elijah Canlas in the title role, alongside Jodi Sta. Maria, Menchu Lauchengco-Yulo, Kakie Pangilinan, Cedrick Juan, Teroy Guzman, Gab Pangilinan, and Issa Litton.

At the core of the initiative is a question the filmmakers hope to bring to campuses nationwide: what kind of future do young Filipinos want for themselves and for the country.
