Fans call him “Pinoy Dao Ming Si” as his look-alike buzz resurfaces amid F4 mania and his growing global achievements.

For years, countless fans have pointed out how much actor David Chua resembles Taiwanese superstar Jerry Yan, the original “Dao Ming Si” of the phenomenal Asian hit “Meteor Garden.”

With his striking looks, David has often been dubbed the “Pinoy Dao Ming Si” or even the “Oppa ng Bayan.”

But beyond his appearance, David has steadily carved out his own name in the industry through talent, hard work, and a string of achievements both in here and abroad.

He first gained attention in 2008 when he became part of ABS-CBN’s Korean adaptation of “My Girl,” alongside the popular love team of Kim Chiu and Gerald Anderson. That project introduced him to a wider audience and jumpstarted a career that has since spanned television and film.

What many don’t know is that David has German roots. His late father was part German, while his mother is Filipina. “Technically, ang apelyido ko dapat ay Kummer, David Kummer. Pero ginamit ko ang maiden surname ng mommy ko,” he shared.

Because of his mestizo features, he is also often mistaken for Korean when traveling abroad. “Kapag nasa ibang bansa ako, akala nila Korean ako. Nagugulat sila kapag sinasabi kong Pilipino ako,” he said with a laugh.

Beyond acting, David has expanded his career as a director, producer, and television personality. In 2022, he made history as the only Filipino juror at the prestigious 13th SOHO International Film Festival in New York City.

That same year, and again in 2023, he was recognized as an Empowered Men and Women Philippines awardee for his contributions to the entertainment industry.

David Chua balances acting and directing, steadily building a multifaceted career while proving he’s more than a Jerry Yan look-alike.

In 2023, he also received the Asia’s Man of Excellence in Entertainment Productions Award at the International Leadership Awards in Thailand.

With the recent buzz surrounding F4 following their concert in Manila, talk about David’s resemblance to Jerry Yan has resurfaced. “Sana nga nakapag-backstage ako sa concert ng F4. Fan talaga ako nila. Siyempre, kinikilig din ako kapag sinasabi nilang kamukha ko si Jerry Yan,” he admitted.

These days, David remains busy in the entertainment industry. He is currently one of the directors of the long-running lifestyle magazine show “Rated Korina,” and can also be seen in the TV5 drama series “Mano Po Legacy.”

“Masaya ako na mapapanood ninyo ang ‘Mano Po Legacy’ sa TV5. Isa ito sa mga project na talagang ipinagmamalaki namin,” he said.

Despite his growing list of accolades, the actor remains grounded. “Every project is an opportunity to grow, not just as an artist, but as a person. I’m grateful sa bawat pagkakataong makapagbigay ng saya, makapag-inspire, at maipagmalaki ang Pilipinas saan man ako dalhin ng trabaho ko,” he shared.

He also teased an upcoming project. “May isa pa kaming very exciting project na ginagawa ngayon at sana ay magsimula na ang production very soon. Abangan n’yo po.”
